Digital engineering mechanical engineering in practice
Something to do with IT? Why not combine the best of IT and machine building? Ready for the digital transformation?
Theory and practice hand in hand: Here you will live out your talent in engineering and IT - side by side with one of our practice partners. With us, you have the choice: we offer you an apprenticeship or practice-integrated degree program. And the best thing is that your cooperation partner will usually cover your semester fees and also pay you a monthly salary.
With an apprenticeship-integrated degree course, you will train as a mechatronics technician or industrial mechanic in your company in addition to your studies, attend vocational school if necessary and take a final IHK examination. In the practice-integrated variant, you also work on projects and student work in the company, do not take an IHK final examination, but receive an internal training plan.
Digitalization and Industry 4.0 are the challenges of the future. And you will learn to shape the future with us: combine technical expertise in mechanical engineering with the latest digital technologies!
As a Digital Engineer Mechanical Engineer, you are the interface between mechanical engineering and IT. You will learn how to use digital tools and techniques such as computer-aided design (CAD), 3D modelling, simulation and digital prototyping to develop, analyze and optimize complex machines and systems. Topics such as Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IoT), data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence will become second nature to you.
In short: here you will learn everything you need to be successful in the constantly changing and digitalized world of mechanical engineering.
Still undecided - maybe because you have deficits in math? Problems are there to be solved: With our MatheLift program, you can still get started. You can find more information below under "Useful links".
We live mechanical engineering! Join us, we'll get you there...

- Digital product development (e.g. virtual product development and simulation)
- Mechatronics (e.g. electromobility and Internet of Things)
- Smart Production (e.g. digitalization and Industry 4.0)
Course of study
- 1st semester: basic semester
- 3rd, 4th and 6th semester: Engineering fundamentals
- 2nd and 5th semester: Practical semester
- 7th and 8th semester: specialization
- 8th semester: Practical phase, Bachelor's thesis and colloquium
Possible Master's program at the Ostfalia
- Systems Engineering (M. Eng.) (full-time/part-time)
- Automotive Production (M.Eng.) (part-time/continuing education)
- Digital Technologies (M. Eng.)
